Procedure

FUE — follicular unit extraction

Follicular units are removed one by one from the donor area and implanted where needed, without a linear scar.

In FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) the follicular units — natural groups of one to four hairs — are removed individually from the donor area, usually the back and sides of the head, using precision micro-instruments. Once selected and counted, they are implanted in the recipient area following the design agreed at the consultation.

Who it may suit

The indication is always medical. It depends on the hair-loss pattern, its stability, the density and quality of the donor area and each person's expectations. The assessment includes trichoscopy of the donor area to measure density in follicular units per cm² and the average number of hairs per unit.

How we plan

  • Measurement of each area to be treated and choice of a target density per zone.
  • Calculation of donor capacity, respecting a minimum residual density so the donor area keeps a natural look.
  • Grafts per session and, when needed, planning of future sessions.

Surgery day

Surgery is performed under local anaesthesia and usually takes six to eight hours. During the procedure we record each phase, the graft count by type and the time out of the body. At the end you receive written instructions, the prescribed medication and the team's contact.

Recovery and follow-up

Small scabs and some swelling may appear in the first days. Follow-up includes a call the next day, the first wash and reviews at 2, 6, 9, 12 and 18 months with standardised photographs. Growth is gradual and varies from person to person.

Results depend on each case and cannot be guaranteed. Indication, risks and alternatives are explained at the medical consultation.
